Assignment: The primary intention of this problem is to explore various aspects of the fundamantal design principal contrast. Students will experiment with negative/positive relationships, scale as it pertains to contrast and patterning. Using only letterforms create six typographic designs to solve the problems listed below. The size is either 3" by 3" or 4" by 4". In each of the six problems use the designated typeface. Use a minimum of two letterforms and as many colors as you like, except for the negative/positive problem where only black and white is required. Note: Carefully consider some or all of the following design principles:
  • Framal reference
  • Detachment
  • Touching
  • Overlapping
  • Penetration
  • Cropping
  • Repetition
  • Illusionary Space
  • Contrast of shape, size, color and direction
