Assignment: Create a 1 - 3 minute sound piece, working in groups of two. Try to capture the essence of a season.
For this project, I worked with the lovely Mirella Piccone, who kept the mood bouyant throughout a long day. We chose "Autumn" and decided to use the world around ITP as our sound repository. It was a lot of fun walking around the neighborhood with an MiniDisc recorder and mike, from the Strand Bookstore to Toys 'R Us to the Union Square markets, but upon returning to 721 Broadway we were dismayed to find that most of the sounds were badly recorded and unusable.
So we decided to create this happy homage to Thanksgiving instead, using public domain sound effects and a happy country jingle we found on the web. (Along the way I managed to mis-set the settings on one of the mixer audio outs; my ears are still ringing.) So, happy Thanksgiving ITP! And may all your turkeys be sliced. With chainsaws.
